From to president Madelaine-Dubé Michaud :
Dear members,
Last November, one of the founders of our association left for the big trip. Jean-Eudes (honorary member 3) left us after several years of serving members. Indeed, he was one of the founding members of our association and acted as a genealogist. Many of you have called on him to identify your ancestors and know your family lineage. In May, he decided to retire after 37 years of active duty. In October, we soberly noted his departure and, a few days later, he left us for good. We send all our wishes of condolences to his wife, Thérèse Collard, and his family, his friends and all our members who knew and appreciated him during all these years.
Today, 2024 has already made its bow, giving way to a new year which will keep us busy again to better inform you while improving our database. Genealogy is daily work to register your data in the right family.
Of the approximately 175 members of our association, 62 are life members and many for several years. We don’t hear from them often (not having a renewal form to fill out). Since the beginning of autumn, I have been trying to contact each of them by telephone to inform them of the obligations of Law 25 (protection of personal data), to check if their contact details in our database are still valid and to discuss topics that may interest them. This exercise revealed that the telephone service for many is no longer working. Have they moved? The majority of these people don’t have an email address either. I have prepared a WANTED NOTICE for these members. You will find it later in the newsletter and, if you recognize some people, do not hesitate to contact me: “
The board is preparing to review our statutes so that they comply with the laws that govern us. We hope to be able to present the changes to you at the next annual meeting. At this time, board members are already working to prepare for the next annual meeting.
Our vice president, André, has agreed to take the necessary steps to arrange a meeting for us that could take place in Montérégie??? Keep an eye out for our next newsletter.
In closing, on behalf of all the members of the council, I would like to wish each of you a year 2025 filled with pleasure, joy, but above all happiness with health to fully enjoy each day. Remember that to be happy, it’s not about having everything, it’s about not needing anything else.
Madelaine Dubé-Michaud, president (1585)
